On our doorstep
Although you might have to go that extra mile to enjoy Polurrian Hotel's stunning location, we promise you'll find plenty to see and do once you get here.
There is of course, some of the most spectacular coastal scenery to enjoy, whether you choose to explore on foot, by bicycle or by car, and the South West Coast Path is right on our doorstep - turn left for Mullion Cove or right for Polurrian and Poldhu Coves. If you want to catch some waves while you visit us, then look no further than the Dan Joel Surf School. Dan is a champion surfer with 20 years’ experience and teaches surf lessons at Poldhu Beach with all equipment included.
Further to the south Beyond Mullion is Kynance Cove and beach – possibly the most photographed and painted location in Cornwall – and then on to The Lizard, home of Ann's Pasties (the best and most traditional pasties you could wish for) and the Lizard Point, the most southerly point on the British mainland. The Lizard Lighthouse Heritage Centre is quite interesting and you might even get to see some Cornish choughs flying around, with their distinctive red bill and legs.
It's not all just about the coastline, though. Head inland (to the limited extent that it's possible on a peninsula…) and you'll come across Goonhilly Downs, an area of heathland designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest and home to the enormous satellite dishes which make up the iconic landmark of Goonhilly Satellite Earth Station, the largest of its kind in the world. The site played a key role in communications events such as the Muhammad Ali fights, the Olympic Games, the 1969 moon landings and 1985's Live Aid concert.
Not far from Goonhilly you can visit Roskilly's Ice Cream near St Keverne, while if you feel the need for fortification, you can head up to the lush green environs of the Helford River, through Gweek (and it's seal sanctuary) to Constantine and the renowned malt whisky collection at Constantine Post Office.
There is, of course, so much to see in the area and in the rest of Cornwall generally and Polurrian is really well-placed for exploring. Whether you want peace and tranquility or adrenalin and excitement, there is something for everyone and our staff are more than happy to discuss all the options available and find the ideal solutions for you and your family.
