10 Things to do in Cornwall this Autumn & Winter

Monday 09 October 2023

Embrace the elements and make the most of all that Cornwall has to offer throughout the autumn and winter

Think of Cornwall and you’ll often conjure images of long, lazy beach days, sandcastles and suncream. But summertime is only part of the story, and holiday season on the south west coast is all year round. Whether you’re the type that likes to get out and embrace the seasons, or you prefer cosying up with a drink and a good book, Polurrian on the Lizard is perfectly located, and equipped, to offer just the escape that you need…

‘HALLOWEDEN’ AT EDEN PROJECT

Take the whole family to the world famous Eden Project between 23rd and 31st October and let them loose in a spooky puzzle trail, potion making workshop, owl display and wonderfully creepy live show. The biomes will be specially dressed up for Halloween and you never know what you might find lurking amongst the plants and trees!

SUP BOARDING ADVENTURES

What could be better than exploring the secret caves and hidden coves of the Cornish coast by water? SUP boarding is a gentle yet invigorating way to cruise around and, though conditions are more frequently suitable in the summer months, Cornwall sees many glorious days throughout the autumn and winter and, with the right wetsuit and an adventurous attitude, you can beat the elements and enjoy exploring during the quieter seasons.

For guided tours, Lizard Adventures launch from two stunning locations, offering a three-hour guided trip on the sea from Cagdwith Cove on the Lizard, or Hayle Harbour for a more sheltered two-hour trip on the estuary. This is obviously weather and sea conditions permitting & booking ahead by calling 07845204040 is essential.

A WILD CHRISTMAS AT NEWQUAY ZOO

Newquay Zoo is always a fun-filled day out for all the family. It’s a place to roam, discover, explore and get in touch with nature, and with skate park ‘Concrete Waves’ next door, if they’ve got any energy left you can let your own little animals go wild on the ramps. As well as a wonderful variety of happy and fascinating creatures, there are rumours that a certain jolly, bearded chap in a red suit may be visiting this December….

POLURRIAN ‘WOODFIRED SESSIONS’

Taking place every Sunday in the beautiful surroundings of the ocean-view Vista Lounge, the Woodfired Sessions are a live music event featuring performances from some of the south west’s brightest up and coming artists as well as established local legends. With a deliciously tempting menu of dishes cooked in our woodfired oven, and an impressive range of drinks, including signature cocktails, this is the only way to spend a Sunday afternoon. Entry is free, but if dining then booking a table is strongly advised.

FLAMBARDS THEME PARK

Visit the award-winning and unique indoor attractions including The Victorian Village and Britain in the Blitz life-size re-creations and enjoy some top rides including the newest ride ‘Sky-Force’. CHRISTMAS AT MOUSEHOLE

Cornwall famously has no shortage of picturesque harbours, but there is something about the small yet stunning fishing port of Mousehole that lends itself to Christmas! Every festive season, the harbour walls, boats and stone steps are adorned in a twinkly covering of colourful lights, and visitors flock to immerse themselves in Christmas spirit, admiring and photographing the display while enjoying a warming mulled wine from one of the cosy, historic harbourside pubs.

RIDE THE WAVES

Once you’ve mastered catching a wave and riding it into the beach, you will never be the same! Winter sees the best swells arriving on the Cornish coast, and we are fortunate to have many sheltered beaches around the Lizard that offer great conditions for beginners and improvers. Dan Joel’s Surf School at Poldhu Cove offers friendly, expert tuition and all the equipment you need to get you up and riding, and smiling from ear to ear!

GO UNDERGROUND!
