Set on the gorgeous Cornish coastline, the Polurrian boasts some of the best views over the Lizard.

Nestled in Mullion in-between the Lizard and Porthleven, the Polurrian Hotel is situated in an idyllic and quiet spot that will leave you feeling far away from anything else. The Polurrian hotel has an impressive history welcoming visitors for over a century since 1890 including Winston Churchill himself and Guglielmo Marconi who sent the first ever transatlantic radio message from Poldhu Cove. As we stepped foot into the hotel, the first thing to catch my eye was the breath-taking views over the ocean from the floor to ceiling windows that line the lounge and bar area. Natural light pours into the lounge and bar area making it the perfect setting for a Tarquin’s gin and tonic after a long day.

We were lucky enough to be staying in one of their sea view rooms at the front of the hotel that left us stunned as we gazed out to the setting sun that lit up the evening sky. Our room was light and spacious with a modern feel, accompanied by a large bathroom filled with luxury Elemis products. The restaurant had a Mediterranean-style menu that uses seasonal and locally sourced ingredients within a 20-mile radius that ensures fresh and high-quality food. The staff were both welcoming and friendly and the food was delicious. We had a 3-course meal that compromised of a Cornish tapas platter to start, wood-fired mains to follow and sweet desserts to finish. The bar is open till late allowing for after dinner cocktails in a relaxed environment.

The morning view did not disappoint as we had coffee in bed before heading down to breakfast. Breakfast was served in the same restaurant as dinner but had been transformed with an impressive spread of continental options from fresh pastries to homemade granola. Additionally, there was a kitchen menu that offered a full Cornish breakfast, waffles and even Cornish clotted cream porridge to name just a few options!

Feeling full after a big breakfast we explored the facilities the hotel has to offer. First stop was a spot of tennis. The tennis courts are set at the foot of the hotel and must be one of the most picturesque spots for tennis to ever exist. With a vista of calm seas hugging the rugged coastline, it was hard to concentrate on anything else.

After a quick change of clothes, we followed the footpath down to Poldhu Cove which is situated just a five-minute wander from the hotel and beautifully quiet. Poldhu Cove is an expansive sandy bay that is ideal for families and also dog (and horse!) friendly. Blessed with a gorgeous Spring day, the sun was shining and the water was so perfectly clear and inviting we jumped in for a refreshing swim. Although the water was a mere 12°c we were comforted by the thought of a spa afternoon back at the hotel. The health club facilities are complete with a gym, indoor pool and hot tub in addition to spa treatment rooms for a full pamper afternoon.

Our stay at the Polurrian Hotel on the Lizard made us appreciate the importance of location above all else. The setting is second to none, leaving you feel refreshed and at peace with the surrounding environment. With friendly staff, delicious food and great facilities, what more could you want from a hotel stay? Well, in addition to all of this, the hotel hosts a number of events including: yoga, beach cleans, coasteering, wild swimming, surf lessons, sea kayaking and even beach survival skills. Over the upcoming summer months, free-entry ‘Woodfired Sessions’ will be open to all (non-guests included) for wood-fired Sunday lunch and live music beginning at 4pm. I couldn’t recommend the Polurrian Hotel enough, whether you fancy a mini weekend break or Sunday lunch, this hotel has it all. Treating a loved one?
