On Tuesday 6 October, a line of pre-1976 classic cars will take the last lane down to Polurrian. It’s the end of the first Loxley Collection 500, a drive along the Roman roads of Britain.
The tour is the idea of our owner, Andrew Long. It brings together three things he cares about: old cars, old roads, and the independent places you find along them.
The route
Twelve or more cars leave North Yorkshire on Friday 2 October. Over the next four days they follow roads the Romans laid down, across the North York Moors and through Lincoln, the Cotswolds and Somerset. Then comes a final 155-mile leg west into Cornwall and down onto the Lizard.
Come and see them arrive
If you’re local, or just have a soft spot for polished chrome and the sound of an engine older than you are, come and welcome the drivers. The cars arrive between 3pm and 4pm on Tuesday 6 October and will be on display at the hotel.
After the drive
The drivers and their guests stay on with us. That evening there’s a dinner arranged for the occasion, with live music. On Wednesday afternoon they head out again on a 20-mile loop of the Lizard Peninsula: narrow lanes, open heath, and the sea never far off.
“The Polurrian has been a fixture on this stretch of Cornish coast for over a century,” says Andrew. “Finishing a drive through Britain’s ancient road network at a place with its own deep-rooted history feels like the right way to end it.
“The Loxley Collection 500 celebrates Britain’s heritage. It encourages drivers to explore historic towns and landscapes, while supporting the independent hospitality businesses and local communities that make each destination unique.”
