At Hotel Polurrian, we believe in supporting our community and inspiring young minds — and last week, we had the pleasure of doing just that as we welcomed Year 6 pupils from Mullion Primary School for our annual “Meet the Professionals” careers event.
Now in its second year, this interactive event is part of our ongoing school partnership programme. It’s designed to give young students a behind-the-scenes look at the many exciting roles that help bring a hotel like ours to life — and to spark curiosity about the world of work.
The children, aged 10 and 11, spent the morning with a wide range of professionals including members of our own hotel team and some of the experts currently working on our exciting redevelopment project. From hotel management and front-of-house, to catering, architecture, engineering, and project planning, each professional shared their journey and answered some brilliant questions from our young visitors.
“We’re proud to support our local community and help inspire the next generation,” said Andrew Long, owner of Hotel Polurrian. “It was lovely to see the enthusiasm of the school children as they learned more about the many roles that keep the hotel running, as well as those shaping its future.”
Working closely with Mullion Primary School, the event was carefully designed to build confidence, encourage curiosity, and help students connect classroom learning with real-world careers.
Rob Chirgwin, head teacher at Mullion Primary, commented:
“Opportunities like this are invaluable for our students. Meeting professionals in real-world settings helps to bring learning to life and opens young minds to the wide range of careers available to them in the future. We’re grateful to Hotel Polurrian for making this careers session engaging and inspiring.”
This careers morning is just one part of our broader commitment to community engagement and education. So far in 2025, we’ve participated in career events at Mullion Secondary School and Helston Community College, and we’re also proud to be leading the refurbishment of the former Lifeguard Building at Polurrian Cove — another step toward supporting our local area.
We’re already looking forward to welcoming next year’s Year 6 pupils — and to continuing our work with local schools to help inspire tomorrow’s professionals.
