Mullion Primary School Benefits from Polurrian on the Lizard School Partnership Programme

Wednesday 26 June 2024

At Polurrian on the Lizard, we believe in the power of community and the importance of investing in the future of our young people. This year, we are proud to highlight our partnership with Mullion Primary School, demonstrating our commitment through financial support and educational engagement. Here’s a look at how we’ve made a difference together.

Supporting Digital Learning with a £2,000 Donation

Our hotel has donated £2,000 to Mullion Primary School, which has been used to purchase 80 stylus pens. These pens complement the iPad provision that all schools under the Truro and Penwith Academy Trust (TPAT) benefit from through the groundbreaking Advantage Project. This initiative ensures that pupils and staff have access to the latest and best digital teaching and learning tools, providing Cornish schools with a 21st-century educational experience.

Rob Chirgwin, Headteacher of Mullion Primary School, shared his enthusiasm for the project:

“Last year, we embarked on our Advantage Project, transforming our teaching and learning through technology. One of the aims is to ensure our children have the same equitable education that children further up the line will receive. To ensure this, we invested in iPads for all children from Year 4 and upwards. This has had an impact and really revolutionised the way teachers can deliver learning to pupils.”

Mr. Chirgwin added,

“With school budgets being so tight, we would not have been able to purchase these wonderful stylus resources without this kind of donation. The stylus pens are designed to make using an iPad easier and we wish to thank Polurrian on the Lizard for its donation.”

Inspiring Future Careers with a ‘Meet and Greet’ Event

In addition to the financial contribution, we were thrilled to host a Year 6 careers ‘meet and greet’ event at our hotel. This event provided the children with a unique opportunity to explore various career paths within the hospitality industry. They learned about hotel management, PR, marketing, events, food and beverage services, construction, and landscape design. Through engaging with professionals in these fields, the students gained valuable insights and inspiration to guide their future educational and career choices.

The feedback from the school was overwhelmingly positive:

“Besides the kind donation, the school children thoroughly enjoyed their visit to the hotel to meet professionals working in a variety of different job roles across the hotel. It was a joy to see the children so interested in the world of work. We would like to express our gratitude to the Polurrian on the Lizard team for their support this year.”
