Taking care of yourself in the winter months

Wednesday 07 November 2018

With Christmas looming, November should be a time of self-care, stillness and reflection.

As much as the Festive period is a magical and happy time of year, it can also be hectic. Use these tips to make it more manageable – and make time for yourself so you look and feel rested come Christmas Day.

Daily Gratitude

Set an intention to start each day of November by giving thanks. Before your feet hit the floor, take a few deep breaths and reflect on one thing you are thankful for. Commit to this practice for a few weeks and before you know it, feeling grateful will be a regular part of your morning routine.

Give yourself a simple day

We all lead such busy lives, so it’s nice to be able to gear down for a while with the people we love the most. Sometimes the simple things in life are the best; a walk in the woods with your four-legged friend, an exhilarating swim in the sea, looking up at the stars with your children on a clear night, the heady winds after a storm. Give yourself a day to immerse yourself in nature. Explore, find new things and get creative.

Book a Treatment

Come in from the bitter cold winds of the Cornish coast this autumn and indulge in a treatment. Our spa has everything you need to relax, recharge and feel incredible.

While the children are entertained, pamper yourself with a treatment and some me-time. Soothe away stresses with an age-defying facial, unwind with a deep tissue massage or nourish yourselves with one of our couples’ treatments.

The Polurrian Signature Spa Treat offers a delicious Cornish cream tea and a glass of Prosecco and a 40-minute treatment tailored to your needs.

This is the perfect way to unfurl at this time of year.

Look after your skin

The temperature has really dropped in the last few days in the UK, and our skin can start to look a little chapped. Staying well hydrated can be a challenge for many of us, particularly during the winter months when glugging a cold glass of water doesn’t feel particularly appealing. Choose warm water if it’s too cold to drink from the tap or fridge. Slices of ginger are a lovely, soothing addition to this.

Once hydrated, support your skin with products specially formulated to relieve dryness. Our spa stocks the Elemis Superfood Collection, these products help nourish and revitalise skin, for a healthy, glowing and fresh-faced look.

Give back

Winter can be a tough time for many; shelters are busiest in this season and have the greatest need for donations and volunteers. It’s easy to get caught up in the Christmas season but try to carve some time to help others (easier this month than next)- whether it’s a quick supermarket shop for your local food bank or donating to a charity to support a cause you believe in, it can be deeply rewarding for you too.

Make Christmas pudding and mincemeat

With more than a month to go before the big day, there’s ample time to wield the wooden spoon. Apart from getting organised and crossing off another task from your Xmas to-do list, it’s an enjoyable way to spend an afternoon. Not to mention the most wonderful Christmassy smells that fill your house

We wish you all wonderful November’s. We know winter can sometimes be stressful and busy but we hope you can find some peace and quiet, with time to relax and enjoy the penultimate month of the year.
