Summer may be coming to an end; the children are back to school and the nights slowly drawing in but there’s still lots to see and do in Cornwall this September.

Come rain or shine we have some wonderful suggestions on how to spend that all important quality time with family and friends, including four-legged ones.
With everything from cider and theatre, to foodie festivals, beach cleans and our very own family Autumn fair here at the hotel – we’ve rounded up our favourite events and things to do in Mullion and further afield.
So, if you’re planning a trip, look at what’s on and make the most of your time here.
All the events listed below are within an hour’s drive of the Polurrian and many are completely free of charge too!
All year round – Dog-friendly Beach Cleans:
Polurrian Beach and coastal paths are just a short meander from the hotel to enjoy a nice walk or a little paddle in the sea. We’re passionate about looking after the environment and have partnered with Friends of Polurrian Beach, together we organise monthly Beach cleans, it’s a fabulous way to spend time together and what you find washed-up never ceases to amaze. ‘Hard work should be rewarded with good food’ so we provide a delicious spread of refreshments including homemade cakes, teas and coffees .Check their Facebook page for regular updates & information.
All year round - Surf Lessons with Dan Joel Surf
Where: 5 minutes from the Polurrian Bay Hotel
If you’re looking for a more adventurous activity, you can experience the thrill of surfing at the beautiful Poldhu Beach, Mullion. Surf lessons are provided here for both adults and children by DanJoelSurf in partnership with the National Trust and voted in the top 5 surf schools in UK by The Times!
1st-23rd September: Groundwork presents Andy Holden, Helston
Where: 20 minutes from The Polurrian Bay Hotel
The perfect rainy-day trip. Groundwork will be presenting an exhibition this month, showcasing two film works by artist Andy Holden. Commissioned by Artangel, Bristol Museum & Art Gallery, Leeds Art Gallery and Towner Art Gallery, the two films explore bird behaviours, as well as the social history of egg collecting, which was made illegal in Britain since 1954.
7th-9th September: Newquay Fish Festival
Where: 1 hour from The Polurrian Bay Hotel
Now in its 16th year, the Newquay Fish Festival celebrates the rich heritage and cuisine we have right on our doorstep. Top chefs from across the region will show how to make the most of his bounty, with a chance to watch, learn and try some delicious seafood. Sample everything from traditional pasties to curries, crepes and chocolate fountains, as well as Cornish cakes and ciders all in the big food, craft and art tent.
14th – 16th September: The Little Orchard Cider & Music Festival, Nr Truro
Where: 50 minutes from The Polurrian Bay Hotel
Now in its sixth year, this three-day event includes live music, tractor rides, secret cider walks and glamping in hobbit huts. The Little Orchard Cider & Music Festival will include headline acts The Wurzels, Hayseed Dixie and The Fratellis for a weekend of cider drinking and chart-topping tunes in Cornwall’s very own working cider farm. Definitely not one to miss for that true Cornish experience.
Saturday 29th September: ‘Beside the Sea’ The Polurrian Bay Hotel’s Autumn Fair
We have organised a fun day for all the family, jam-packed with entertainment, great food and laughter, right here at the hotel!
From 12-4pm there will be all sorts of sea-themed activities to get involved with, from Welly-wanging, mini Olympics and sea shanties, to Marks Ark, face painting/ tattoos, a fancy-dress competition and fantastic prizes to be won via our raffle.
Plus, we have a brand-new cocktail menu launching with demos from our bar team and a sizzling BBQ to celebrate the change of season. This is a free event, however all proceeds will go to a charity close to our hearts, the South West Coast Path Association 40for40 campaign. Waggy tails are most welcome (on leads). There will be something for everyone to enjoy.
