Sustainability

Polurrian on the Lizard is committed to the principles of applying sustainable tourism.

Wherever possible, we will endeavour to minimise the impact of our business on the environment.

We try to conserve energy wherever we can and we have an ongoing process of improvements being carried out within the hotel that will help to preserve our planet’s natural resources and reduce the amount of energy that is wasted.

In order to be more environmentally friendly, we are continually exploring ways in which we can increase the amount of recycling that we do, so that we can help to reduce the amount of waste going into landfill sites.

Energy Conservation:

As well as utilising Energy Saving bulbs, we educate and encourage staff to turn down/off radiators thermostats in unoccupied rooms. We also reduce lighting levels in areas of the hotel based on occupancy and regularly service boilers and heating plant to maintain maximum efficiency. We encourage guests to walk wherever possible, and as we have a stunning beach just a 5 minute walk away, it is possible to stay with us and either not use, or minimise use of, a vehicle.

Reducing Waste Recycle/Re-use:

We use fabric napkins as much as possible rather than disposable paper ones, source recycled products wherever possible and are moving towards using environmentally friendly cleaning materials, and Micro fibre cloths. We encourage guests to refill personal water bottles to avoid single use plastic, and endeavour to print literature on recycled paper

Water Consumption:

Only washing dirty linen has a huge impact on our water consumption, energy and use of detergents, regular servicing and preventative maintenance of heating and DHWS plant, as well as appliances, taps etc, and only running a wash cycle when washing machines and dish/glass washers are fully loaded all help minimise water usage.

Using Local Suppliers:

We are constantly seeking local suppliers for produce, materials and labour in order to reduce environmental impact, aid quality control and support the local economy
